William DAWSON was born in Patricroft / Barton 17 April 1850. He was baptized in St Marys Church, Eccles, 16 June 1850. Religion: C of E.  Residing in Patricroft at the time of Baptism.  William died 27 November 1900 in Newton Heath, at 50 years of age.  His body was interred 1 December 1900 in Newton Heath, All Saints Parish Church. 


He married Sarah Jane GREENWOOD in All Saint's Church, Elton, Bury, 30 Sept 1871.  Sarah was born Shaw, Norland 7 May 1849.  Sarah was the daughter of Moses GREENWOOD and Grace RIDGEWORTH.  Sarah died 1947 at 98 years of age.  Sara Jane GREENWOOD lived at 1 Wall Street around 1885, 50 years before Margaret DAWSON and Edwin KIRK lived there


At the time of the 1851 Census William resided at 29 Folly lane, Worsley, living with his mother.


William's occupation: Tin Plate Worker in Elton, Bury, 1871. At the time of the 1881 census William (30) was living at 40 Nutall Street, Bury together with his wife (Sarah J. (30) and their children Arthur (4), William W. (2) and Ernest (1).  William was a 'Tin Plate Worker). 


He had deceased by the time of his son Ernest's marriage to Martha Ann Lyons on 10 May 1908.


William DAWSON and Sarah Jane GREENWOOD had the following children:


Arthur DAWSON was born 1877.


William Williamson DAWSON was born in Bury 1878.  He married Ellen CROSS in St Pauls Methodist New Connexi, Ten Acres Lane, 11 June 1908.  William Wm DAWSON and Ellen were married at the same time and place as their brother and sister, Arthur DAWSON and Sarah CROSS. William Wm was living at 112 Robert Street, and Ellen was living at 94 Robert Street, Newton Heath.

Ellen was born in Manchester 1880  the daughter of William Hayes CROSS and Henrietta TURTON.  At the time of the 1901 census William was living with his mother at 112 Roberts Street.  He gave his occupation as 'Textile Designer'.  William's occupation: Cotton Designer 1908.


Ernest DAWSON was born 15 December 1879.


Joseph Edward DAWSON was born 1886.  Joseph died 7 September 1893 at 7 years of age.  His body was interred 11 September 1893 in Newton Heath, All Saints, Newton Heath.  Film MFPR6 Manchester Central Library  Page 256, No 2043 Monumental Inscription. Newton Heath Cemetary, Grave 169 "William Dawson Husband of Sara Jane Died 27th Nov 1900 - Aged 50 years also Joseph Edward Dawson son of above drowned whilst at play. Died 7 Sept 1895 , aged 7 years ‘Death by Drowning’
