William Hayes CROSS was born in Manchester 1850. 


He married Henrietta TURTON in Manchester Cathedral, 22 January 1871.  On the MC William gives his name as "William Cross HAYES".  At the time of their marriage William was 21 yrs, a bachelor and a 'Moulder', Henrietta was 21 yrs and a Spinster.  both gave their address as 31 Blake street, Hulme.  The witnesses were John SHARKEY and Mary Jane LEIGHTON. 


Henrietta was born in Withington, Manchester 1849.  Henrietta was the daughter of Joseph TURTON and Mary turton.  Maiden name unknown.


At the time of the 1871 census William (21) was living at the home of his father in Law at 16 Cottage, Withington together with his new bride Henrietta (22).  William gave his occupation as "Brickmaker".  Also in the house was Joseph TURTON (53) his wife Mary (54) and their daughter Sarah A. (16). 


At the time of the 1881 census William (31) was living at 9 Bowden street together with his wife Henrietta (32) and their children Frederick (9),Gertrude (8), Mary (6), Sarah (4), Henrietta (2) and Ellen (1).  William gave his occupation as Brick Maker.  Also living with them were his sister in Law Sarah Ann BOYLING (26) and her children George W (5), Joseph (4) and Mary (2). His widowed father in Law Joseph TURTON (63) was also living with them.  


At the time of the 1891 census William (41) was living at 9 Bowden Street, Newton Heath together with his wife Henrietta (42) and their children Frederick (19), Gertrude(18), Mary (16), Sarah (14), Henrietta (12), Ellen (11), Amy (7), Ada (5), Annie (3) and Bertha (1).   William gave his occupation as 'General Labourer'. 


At the time of the 1901 census William (51) was living at 94 Robert Street, Newton Heath together with his wife Henrietta (52) and their children Mary Jane (26), Sarah (24), Henrietta (22), Ellen (21), Amy (17), Ada (15), Annie ( 12, Bertha (11) and George (9).  William gave his occupation as "Flagger (Stone)". 


William's occupation: Foreman Flagger 1908.


William Hayes CROSS and Henrietta TURTON had the following children:


Frederick CROSS was born in Withington, Manchester 1872.


Gertrude CROSS was born in Withington, Manchester 1873.


Mary Jane CROSS was born Withington 1875.


Sarah CROSS was born 1877.


Henrietta CROSS was born in Manchester 1879.


Ellen CROSS was born in Manchester 1880.  She married William Williamson DAWSON in St Pauls Methodist New Connexi, Ten Acres Lane, 11 June 1908.  William Wm DAWSON and Ellen were married at the same time and place as their brother and sister, Arthur DAWSON and Sarah CROSS.  William Wm was living at 112 Robert Street, and Ellen was living at 94 Robert Street, Newton Heath.  William was born in Bury 1878.  William was the son of William DAWSON and Sarah Jane GREENWOOD.  Ellen's occupation: Cotton Weaver 1908.


Amy CROSS was born in Newton Heath 1884.


Ada CROSS was born in Newton Heath 1886.


Annie CROSS was born in Newton Heath 1888.


Bertha CROSS was born in Newton Heath 1890.


George CROSS was born in Newton Heath 1892.
